The game is all about matching gems in straight lines of three or more. Match some gems and they will turn into troops. These troops will then march up the screen and hit any critters they come in contact with.
That is an important point to think about though. If you match a set of gems on one side of the screen, they are not going to ramble over to the other. Troops always walk directly up from where they are matched.
Match a few green gems, as an example, and they will add some mana to any green character that you have got on your military.
Various monsters also have various colours. You may use this to figure out what you have to be hitting them with. Pay attention to the wheel at the top left corner of the screen to learn which colour gems are strongest against which colour characters.
Sometimes you’e not going to be able to move the board around to utilize the most effective colours, but bear in mind that it’s always much better to utilize any colour instead of the one that is weakest against the opponent that you’re fighting.
It’s ideal to have as mixed a set of personalities as you can, because that’s going to put you in good stead whatever you come up against. But it is possible to see exactly what you’re going to be fighting before you embark on a level, so if you’ve got plenty of powerful characters it is possible to tailor your own army.
